It has come to our attention once again that members who have registered a domain name to use with their website are being contacted by an unscrupulous companies advising them that their domain name is due for renewal.  The main perpetrator is a company called "Domain Name Registry of America".

In fact if you read the fine print they are requesting you to authorise a transfer to their domain name registration service for inflated prices and once transferred you will be unable to make your domain name work with your Domaynes website without paying additional fees.

Most of the time the correspondence looks quite official and is often in the form of a postal letter, but some members have also received emails, so please be on the lookout and don't be duped.

We are also aware of the growing trend of cybersquatters waiting for active domain names to expire, registering them and putting them up for sale at inflated prices, basically holding a legitimate owner to ransom.  The easiest way to make sure that this does not happen to you is to renew your domain name before the due date.

If you have any concerns whatsoever, please drop me an email or call me directly on (0400) 60 77 07 (International callers 61-400-60 77 07).

I came across a couple of free online virus scanners

Internet Explorer 4+ is required for the Online Scanner to work.

Bit Defender

Trend Micro House Call

I have personally tried both.
It never ceases to amaze me that there a lot of computers out there that do not even have virus protection or even a firewall on their system.

One of the hazards of loading a Anti-Virus program onto a computer that has been surfing the net for a while, is that sometimes the program can be loaded onto an infected machine. Thus causing the program to malfunction. When a full scan is run if will not pick up the trojans or viruses that were on the machine prior to the installation.

The advantage of running these online scanners is that they have the advantage of not being controlled by these viruses by being placed on top of them. They can scan the machine independently and do their intended job effectively.

If your machine is suspected of being infected please run either of the above virus scanners.
